5 Reasons to Love a Button

Simply put, I love buttons and think more people should use buttons in their brand marketing. Quick, cheap, clever, easy to transport, readily available... please give me a reason NOT to love a button.
In support of more branded buttons in your 2020 marketing plans, I've broken down five reasons why you should add button orders to your budget along with my suggestions for getting the most mileage out of them.

  1. Nostalgia is in: people love the novelty of things from a pre-digital age. Play to the demographic you are targeting and google inspiration of their interest, use inspiration from the buttons of past decades. Consider collectibility of designs/editions for a built-in marketing solution that could make for very fun social media marketing.
  2. Easy to have on hand: low weight, low size impact. Carry them in a pocket or purse when out and about. Leave at coffee shops, libraries, or events where appropriate. Use instead of a business card for a strong impact (for brand recognition over personal connection). Use as a distraction or talking point.
  3. Instant visibility: if it’s a good design, or sends a cool message, people will wear it. Unlike a T-shirt or hat, little styling is needed to wear a button. There is no discrimination in gender, age, or race of who can wear one. They're nearly age appropriate for all! The wearability contributes to being no/low effort for your demographic since they are not obligated to hold or carry.
  4. Small investment for high impact: low cost solution for marketing budgets. Because buttons can be mass produced, this allows brands to spend on buying thousands for distribution and prevents "selective handouts" - everyone literally gets one! Changing design or offering seasonal/variety of images gives marketing + branding flexibility at very low cost. Design as well as distribution options are endless.
  5. It’s fun! Create something unique and wear it proudly. Encourage wearability with silly statements or fashion moments. Play to Instagram-culture. Other ideas: use specific brand buttons as a personal message to the culture or social environment you are participating in, consider multi-packs showcasing several designs that can be collected, gifted, or traded.

Reaching your demographic involves being memorable and buttons can provide a very playful and easy way to grow brand awareness. Have fun and make a mark in your industry with brand creativity!
